Now, I would like to take forum member's opinion to rate these engines on 1. Reliability 2. Fuel efficiency 3. Power/Torque output 4. Dynamics (like weight for example, Ecoboost engine weighs more could be due to the metal used in the engine - Cast Iron) 5. Suitability of the engine to Indian conditions (important factor after these DSG issues

1. Yeti 1.2. Posted 10 March, 2014. Regarding engine failures on the 1.2 TSI engine, I have just sent my Yeti to the workshop with warning lamps lit on EPC, traction control and exhaust control. The mechanic says that the turbo has failed. Luckily, my warrant only expires next month.

The Toyota 1.2 turbo is a fairly new engine that Toyota released for their entry-level models. This engine was introduced in 2015 and was designed to compete with the 1.2 TSI by Volkswagen and the 1.0L EcoBoost engine made by Ford. The 1.2L turbo is known under the code name 8NR-FTS. This engine as its name implies is a 1.2L in displacement.
Information on the engines is pretty poor actually - looked high and low for reliable info. Also just to answer an earlier question, both the 85PS and 105 PS 1.2 TSI engines are 8v.

My 1.0 TSI with 900 miles is now loosening up nicely and I would say that it has the edge on the 1.2 4 cylinder engines for outright performance. However unless sophistication improves with more mileage I would say that the 1.2 engines were slightly more refined and better mannered. Edited 1 April, 2019 by Robbydazzler
